Nave Clothing Boutique Prototype
Tokyo, Japan
2005
2,000 square feet
SAS was asked to collaborate on the design of a prototype store for a new clothing brand to be launched in Japan.
Display fixtures and their materiality played a role in defining the space of the shop. Rather than thinking of an overall spatial atmosphere with generic fixtures for the display of clothing, we tried to imagine a rather plain space with very specific and detailed display fixtures as the things which defined the store’s spatial experience. The display fixtures could be arranged in any number of combinations within a given retail space as they were imagined to be freestanding and of the same size and shape. A graphic pattern developed in conjunction with designer Etsumi Imamura was the only adornment applied to the walls of the retail space.
