Hamilton Heights Apartment
New York, New York
2008
1,000 square feet
This gut renovation project was conceived with a limited budget, short design phase, and tight construction timeline in mind. Despite these constraints, the clients- a young couple expecting their first child- sought to maximize use and comfort by accommodating living and dining space, a Master Bedroom, separate Bedroom/Office, Walk-In Closet, and an area convertible into a guest space for friends and family.
The project, hemmed in by its tight proportions, was made generous through the simplest spatial divisions and the most custom millwork, with thoughtful yet economical finishes. The clients, in collaboration with a designer/friend, developed a custom stencil based on a traditional Japanese print, to add another dimension to their new home.
