BAM LDC:80 Arts
Brooklyn, New York
2004
30,000 square feet
The Brooklyn Academy of Music Local Development Corporation (BAM LDC) retained OpenOffice to convert an existing 8-story laboratory building into an office building for non-profit arts organizations, including offices for BAM LDC. The building is part of the BAM Cultural District Master Plan developed by OMA/Rem Koolhaas and Diller + Scofidio. It is the first construction project under the master plan.
The 30,000 square foot, 1929 structure has a significant street presence. Its interior spaces offer unobstructed views of Manhattan as well as Brooklyn's waterfront. OpenOffice worked to provide BAM LDC with a design that maximized the potential of the site, building, and program as a community catalyst. The project includes ground floor gathering spaces, a garden, and mid-building conference spaces available for public use, encouraging synergetic interactions among building tenants and the community-at-large.
