Galia Solomonoff, AIA
Principal
Galia Solomonoff earned a Masters in Architecture from Columbia University in 1994 where she received the William Kinne Fellows Traveling Prize and the McKim Prize for Excellence in Design. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from City College, City University of New York in 1991 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Before co-establishing OpenOffice, and later her own practice, Galia worked in Rotterdam with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture/Rem Koolhaas in the planning and design of various large-scale projects. In New York, she worked with Bernard Tschumi Architects, and later Rafael Vinoly Architects, as a project designer.
She has been partner-in-charge for various residential, commercial, and institutional projects ranging from private apartments to a large art museum. Her projects have been featured in numerous periodicals internationally. She has directed award-winning proposals for architectural competitions in Europe and the United States, and received a National Endowment for the Arts grant for her “Defective Brick” proposal.
Currently, Galia teaches graduate design studios and seminars at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. She has taught at The Cooper Union, Rhode Island School of Design, Princeton University, and Yale University where she was honored with the Louis Kahn Chair in 2004. She writes and lectures on topics relating to contemporary art and culture, and its relation to urbanism and architecture.
Galia is a licensed architect in the state of New York and principal of SAS in New York City.
