American Museum of the Moving Image
Competition Finalist
Queens, New York
2004

This proposal for the American Museum of the Moving Image was submitted as a response to the Museum’s desire to renovate and expand its existing facilities in Queens, New York.

The design scheme proposes the addition of a definitive new element to the existing building. This element, which we called The Ribbon, would create a singular space integrating various required programmatic components- entrances, lobby, access ramp, marquee, ticketing, café and shop, and a “screening garden”- into a coherent spatial experience. The use of projection onto the interior surfaces of The Ribbon would allow for the display of moving images as the defining character of an institution dedicated to them. Architecture and image would blur into an immersive spatial experience.
